Mastering Your Contax X3

Loading Film

Load the camera in subdued light. Open the back, place the film leader across the take-up spool, and advance it with the motorized mechanism until the film is securely engaged and the frame counter resets.

Setting Exposure Mode

Select your desired mode—Manual, Aperture-Priority, or Shutter-Priority—using the command dial. Use the top-plate dials to set ISO, aperture, or shutter speed according to the meter reading in the viewfinder.

Composing the Shot

Look through the large, bright viewfinder. Use the central focusing screen to compose your shot precisely. The 0.89x magnification aids in critical focus, especially with fast prime lenses.

Capturing the Image

Press the shutter release button to fire the electronically controlled shutter. For long exposures, engage Bulb mode. After shooting, the camera automatically advances the film to the next frame.

Advancing and Rewinding

Once the roll is finished, the camera will automatically rewind the film into its canister. The motorized rewind is quiet and efficient, protecting your exposed frames.

Battery and Care

Remove the CR123A battery from its compartment when the camera will be stored for an extended period to prevent potential leakage. Clean the body and lens mount contacts with a dry cloth as needed.
